MURRAY HILL, N.J.-Lucent Technologies Inc. successfully completed third-generation wireless packet data calls using a commercial Lucent-supplied 3G 1X Radio Transmission Technology network with both Verizon Wireless and Sprint PCS.
The demonstration over each carrier’s Code Division Multiple Access network performed Web page downloads at up to 153 kilobits per second. Lucent said the transmission was made possible by a newly developed circuit pack installed in a standard commercial Lucent Flexent base station.
Both carriers said the successful demonstration should allow them to commercially deploy the service sometime next year.
