ReFlex brings broadband wireless to apartment communities

Last mile is ReFlex Communications Inc.’s breath of life.

Thanks to the Seattle-based company, multifamily communities have been enjoying high-speed broadband wireless Internet services in their apartments and condominiums across the United States since 1998.

ReFlex enhances its delivery by operating an advanced hybrid wireless/fiber optic network called ReFlexNet which uses Internet Protocol and Private Network Access Points.

The service reaches its customers’ homes by using local telephone companies to bypass choke points.

ReFlexNet, which operates on a next-generation technology platform, is one of the first communications networks to deploy IP technology for fast network solutions using 38 GHz fixed wireless Internet service.

The company offers a variety of services, including symmetrical broadband Internet access, email accounts, personal Web page hosting, back-up services, professional installation and 24-hour help desk support.

It also offers infrastructure for on-demand television service to deliver entertainment through high-speed DSL.

ReFlex provides its services by partnering with apartment and condominium companies and that has helped spread its tentacles to several prime locations across the country.

It has customers in Washington, Washington D.C., California, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Illinois and Oregon.

Two of its partners are Oakwood Worldwide and Essex Property Trust Inc. It provides 20,000 Oakwood apartment units with high-speed Internet in 50 locations across the U.S. The company’s agreement with Essex property in the San Francisco Bay Area, Southern California, Seattle and Portland covers 15,804 apartment units.

Investors include Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette, an integrated investment and merchant bank; The Sprout Group, a private equity capital company; and Enterprise Partners, a Southern California venture capital firm.

Its chief executive officer is Dennis Muse, a former president of Telecom, a commercial segment of MCIWorldnet.
