VIA Technologies quiet about Qualcomm deal

TAIPEI, Taiwan-Taiwan chipset designer VIA Technologies has neither confirmed nor denied a report that the world’s CDMA leader, Qualcomm Inc., has settled a deal to buy a five-percent share of the company.

“We cannot comment on a report like this,” a VIA spokesman told Reuters, on the news Taipei’s Commercial Times newspaper reported last Friday.

VIA had acquired a series of companies last year, including U.S. microchip design firm IC Ensemble Inc. for $11 million as well as Integrated Device Technology Inc., also a subsidiary of a U.S. firm, for $36 million.
