WorldCom layoffs anticipated

NEW YORK-WorldCom Inc., the nation’s largest wireless reseller, could lay off up to 15 percent of its 77,000 work force, according to media reports late last week.

A spokesperson for WorldCom said the company wouldn’t comment on rumors or speculation.

WorldCom, which has been struggling with failing revenues and increasingly rough long-distance pricing wars, has seen its stock fall from about $50 in March to $21 late last week.
