MOSCOW-The Moscow Cellular Communications (MCC) carrier is drafting documents for a 3G trial network and the construction of the project is to be launched in the second or third quarter of 2001.
MCC, which currently operates the NMT-450 MHz technology, jointly with Lucent Technologies is planning to create an IMT-MC (International Mobile Telecommunications Multi-Carrier) digital network. MCC Deputy Director for New Technologies Mikhail Kosinov said the carrier had already reached a frequency agreement with the military, which currently occupies the 400 MHz band in the Moscow area.
MCC Deputy Director General in charge of commerce Lyudmila Novitskaya said the shareholders “were generally ready to invest into the transition to the IMT-MC standard.” IMT-MC is based on the IMT-2000 standard.
