WEST POINT, Ga.-Personal communications services provider Powertel Inc. reported its customer base exceeded 1 million customers during the first quarter.
The carrier, which was the first PCS carrier to offer commercial service in 1996, currently serves 34 metropolitan markets covering more than 25 million people and more than 3,000 miles of major highways connecting them.
Powertel shareholders recently approved a merger with VoiceStream Wireless Corp. and Germany’s Deutsche Telekom AG.
