TROY, N.Y.-MapInfo Corp.’s Location Management Platform has been integrated with Alcatel’s Intelligent Mobile Location Server to provide a fully scalable E911 solution, the companies said.
MapInfo’s Location Management Platform adds location capabilities to call processing, which is required of vendors in order to meet the Federal Communications Commission E911 mandate. By October of this year, wireless carriers must be able to identify the location of a mobile phone user within 75 meters, 70 percent of the time.
Alcatel recently announced its newest version of its Intelligent Mobile Location Server, which, when integrated with MapInfo’s technology, will enable carriers to translate location information into real-time location analysis.
The Location Management Platform includes MapInfo’s PSAP Pro boundary data, which routes E911 calls to the appropriate Public Safety Answering Point. PSAP Pro boundary data eliminates the need for wireless carriers to maintain an internal coordinate routing database, MapInfo said.
PSAP Pro boundary data includes 10-digit emergency numbers, address information, administrative phone number, fax number, contact person, latitude and longitude and jurisdictional boundaries.
Mark Cattini, president and chief executive officer of MapInfo, said existing solutions require wireless carriers to piece together a solution on their own. The combined MapInfo/Alcatel solution enables carriers to meet the FCC mandate through a simple integration process, he said.
