NEW YORK-The U.S. Patent and Trademark office has granted a patent to Tropian Inc., a fabless semiconductor maker based in Cupertino, Calif., for its method of addressing issues related to radio-frequency switch mode power amplifier designs.
“Although information is readily available on the design of power-switch based amplifiers, there is essentially no information on how to make the power switch itself,” said Mike Ure.
“Driving Circuits for Switch Mode RF Power Amplifiers,” is the fifth patent awarded to Tropian, all related to its Polar Impact technology, and the first of several filed “to address this technology gap,” the company said. Tropian has 19 pending patent applications and two other applications allowed for consideration.
Polar Impact “is a strongly non-linear, polar modulation architecture that offers dramatic improvements in system performance, [ease of manufacture] and reliability of wireless handsets and base stations,” Tropian said. “The RF platform enables manufacturers to deliver high-speed wireless data services and multimode handsets and other wireless products that can be used virtually anywhere in the world.”
