NEW YORK-TrinTel Communications Inc., an Irving, Texas, builder, owner and operator of wireless communications towers, has secured $50 million in new private equity investment, the company said June 25.
Austin Ventures, which led the initial venture-capital financing for TrinTel in 1999, joined the latest round with investors that also included GE Capital Telecom and Capital Resource Partners.
With the latest investment, TrinTel said it now has approximately $200 million in committed capital.
“TrinTel remains on target to double its size through new builds and selective acquisitions within the next year,” said John Day, president and chief executive officer.
TrinTel, which currently operates in 25 states, owns approximately 400 wireless telecommunications towers and has an “outstanding backlog of approximately 500 towers,” the company said.
Its customers include AT&T Wireless Services Inc., Sprint PCS affiliate iPCS Wireless, Nextel Communications Inc., Sprint PCS and VoiceStream Wireless Corp.
The tower company comprises three wholly owned subsidiaries: SDS Wireless Inc., which offers site acquisition and entitlement, construction management, switch deployment and related services; Trinity Wireless Services Inc., which engages in construction; and Trinity Wireless Towers Inc., which provides build-to-suit and tower ownership and management services.
