REDMOND, Wash.-Lucent Technologies Inc. and Metawave Communications Corp. announced an alliance to increase the capacity of CDMA and CDMA2000 wireless networks.
The joint solution, designed for the 850 MHz frequency band, will integrate the Lucent Flexent CDMA modular cell base station with the Metawave SpotLight 2200 smart antenna system. The integrated solution simplifies the sharing of the traffic load between sectors and cells to improve the amount of overall traffic that can be carried by the network, the companies said.
Commercial availability of the solution, consisting of both hardware and software, is expected by the end of this year.
