SARASOTA, Fla.—Speedcom Wireless Corp. announced its Wave Wireless Networking division has been chosen by the Federal Aviation Administration to provide broadband wireless connectivity between FAA buildings at airports throughout the U.S.
Wave Wireless’ Speedlan wireless routers will be used to connect multiple building on the grounds of an airport facility without fiber optic cabling or T-1 circuits. So far, 12 airports, including two major hubs, have received FAA orders to implement the Speedlan wireless solution, with plans for additional airports in the works.
“The FAA needed a cost-effective, secure, encrypted method of communication for on-airport building-to-building communications to connect its many dispersed administrative, maintenance and other facilities.,” explained Bill Davis, vice president of worldwide sales for Wave Wireless. “These solutions will help the FAA to improve strategic interdepartmental communications and internal response times.”
