Comverse gains Argentina, Mexico contracts

WOODBURY, New York, United States—Comverse announced two Latin America contract wins on 3 October, just a day after Merrill Lynch downgraded its expectations for the company, sending Comverse’s stock to a new three-year low.

The company’s stock was recovering after the announcements, trading at about US$19 per share, but was way off the US$100 it fetched in January.

The company has been chosen to provide its Intelligent Short Messaging Service Center solution (ISMSC) to Argentina’s Telecom Personal GSM network. In addition, Mexico’s largest wireless carrier Telcel has selected Comverse’s ISMSC technology as well.

“The ability to seamlessly integrate our current feature functionality and services in our existing TDMA network to the new GSM network was a key requirement,” explained Marcelo De Carlo, Telecom Personal’s managing director. “With Comverse’s ISMSC, we can accommodate our existing and future services that will become an important source of revenue and growth.”
