Ericsson bags US$70 million order from Bharti

NEW DELHI, India—Ericsson has bagged a host of mobile infrastructure orders exceeding US$70 million from India’s Bharti group. It will provide end-to-end infrastructure of GSM nodes to Bharti for five new circles of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh West, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, in addition to equipment for network expansion in the existing Chennai circle.

Ericsson will also supply equipment for setting up a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network for Bharti in New Delhi and Bangalore. In addition, Ericsson will implement two intelligent network (IN) platforms for Bharti’s networks in the north and south of India. This is Ericsson’s first GPRS contract in India, said Rohit Chandra, vice president of marketing technical solutions at Ericsson.
