AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands—KPN Telecom and British Telecommunications are in talks regarding sharing their third-generation (3G) networks in the Netherlands, international press reports said. KPN said it was in talks with BT and other possible partners, the reports said.
Both KPN and BT are looking to reduce their 3G buildout costs in light of their high debt loads, based mainly on the high acquisition costs of 3G licenses in Europe.
Other 3G license holders in the Netherlands include Libertel-Vodafone, Orange-controlled Dutchtone, and Ben Nederland, owned by Deutsche Telekom and Denmark’s TDC.
