Handspring, Extended Systems sign agreement

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.—Handspring Inc. made its latest in a series of announcements aimed at the corporate market, inking a deal with Extended Systems to provide education and training to business users looking to deploy wireless products and services.

Specifically, the companies will work to sell Extended Systems’ XTNDConnect Server, which will work with Handspring’s line of wirelessly integrated personal digital assistants, allowing users to access, update and synchronize e-mail, agendas and contacts.

The new deal is also interesting because Extended Systems recently broke off its planned merger with Palm Inc., Handspring’s chief PDA rival.

Most major PDA vendors, while suffering through a sluggish buying market, are looking to target the corporate sector as a new channel for sales. Handspring has recently made several announcements aimed at the business market, including deals with Visto and Aether Systems Inc.
