SAN DIEGO—Leap Wireless International Inc. launched its Cricket wireless service in the combined markets of Merced and Modesto, Calif. Leap now offers service in 32 markets in 18 states.
Harvey White, chairman and chief executive officer of Leap, noted the latest launch puts the company on track to launch in 40 markets by early next year.
Leap also introduced international long distance service to anywhere in Mexico for 18 cents per minute, a move the carrier said would bolster its presence with Hispanic customers.
“For many of our foreign-born and first-generation Hispanic customers, a simple and predictable way to call friends and relatives in Mexico enhances our appeal to this important market segment,” said Don McGuire, vice president of sales and marketing for Leap.
Leap currently offers domestic long distance at 8 cents per minute.
