JAKARTA, Indonesia—Malaysia’s TimeCel recently launched an interactive short message service (SMS) quiz promotion. The promotion, called Juara Lagu 2001 SMS Quiz, runs from 1 to 14 December.
Juara Lagu is Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Berhad’s (TV3) annual song competition in which Time dotCom group, TimeCel’s parent company, is the main sponsor. Participants type a specific key word, send it, and immediately will receive an SMS message displaying the question in response. The winners will be awarded free tickets to the Juara Lagu Grand Finals, which will be held on 12 January at Dewan MBSA, Shah Alam.
Robert C. Fox, Time dotCom chief executive officer (CEO), commented that the SMS promotion is part of TimeCel’s initiative to help promote the event, while maintaining the corporate and brand presence of the company.
Prior to the program, TimeCel, enhanced its network with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) offerings. The carrier appointed Nokia to expand its GSM 1800 MHz network capacity and coverage, including an upgrade to its Short Messaging Service Center (SMSC) to cater to the expected surge in SMS traffic.
