TOKYO—J-Phone, a subsidiary of Vodafone Group, announced that it will launch third-generation (3G) service in Japan on 30 June. NTT DoCoMo which launched the FOMA 3G service on 1 October, is scheduled to expand its service area to all major cities around the country at the end of March, and KDDI is scheduled to launch nationwide cdmaOne 1X service in April.
Darryl Green, president of J-Phone, also announced that J-Phone will launch a new e-mail service in February or March, which will allow cellular handset users to send e-mail with motion pictures.
J-Phone has been successfully providing a cellular phone with a tiny camera, which allows users to send e-mails with a still photo taken with the camera. The number of users of the e-mail service exceeded 3 million as of 25 December, according to J-Phone.
