Nokia still sees growth in China

BEIJING—Nokia expects its handset sales in China to grow by 10 percent to 15 percent this year, the China Daily reported. Motorola leads the market, but Nokia is closing in. The company may be handicapped, because it does not have a license to produce CDMA handsets in China.

But Urpo Karjaleinen, president of Nokia (China) Investment, said discussions are ongoing with Capitel of Beijing to cooperate in producing CDMA handsets.

Nokia’s sales in China amounted to US$3.01 billion last year. Exports grew 50 percent to US$2.22 billion.
