SEATTLE—Terabeam Corp. introduced its new Elliptica transceiver, which transmits wavelengths of light through the air rather than through fiber-optic cables, this week at the Broadband Wireless World Forum.
Elliptica, which is the size of a small basketball and can be hung from walls or ceilings, operates at 100 megabits per second in each direction. Although it is designed for an indoor office setting, it can also be mounted outdoors.
“With the new Terabeam Elliptica, we are able to satisfy a carrier’s data requirements quickly, without digging or laying fiber, and we’re able to do so at the quality and reliability standards that they expect,” said Dan Hesse, Terabeam’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.
