Intel, Appear offer WLAN services

CANNES, France—Intel Wireless Competence Center and Appear Networks will demonstrate wireless local area network (WLAN) location-based services at the 3GSM World Congress.

The demonstration uses application provisioning technology by Appear Networks, along with Intel Pro/Wireless LAN 802.11b networks and Intel StrongARM-based devices. Users will be able to activate applications by clicking on icons on the devices that will appear or disappear depending on their locations.

“Click and Run by Appear Networks is a fast and convenient way to automatically distribute new applications over-the-air,” said Pontus Axelsson, vice president of product management at Appear Networks. “The unique user experience allows provisioning of complex applications to any device in single click, making the Appear Provisioning Server an ideal platform for hot spot deployments.”
