SAN DIEGO—Leap Wireless International Inc. reported strong early customer growth for the year for its Cricket wireless service offering. While not releasing any numbers, the company said that through the first two months they have seen growth exceeding expectations. Leap currently serves approximately 1.1 million customers in 40 markets and has said it expects to have 2 million customers by the end of this year.
The news sent the carriers stock price up more than 20 percent in early Thursday trading.
Leap also named Thomas Page to its board of directors.
