Verizon introduces per-megabyte pricing for data service

BEDMINSTER, N.J.—Verizon Wireless introduced per-megabyte rate plans for its Express Network data service as an alternate to its originally announced per-minute plans.

The new plans, which the carrier said are designed for business customers, begin at $35 per month for 10 MB of data transmission, step up to $55 for 20 MB with tiers up to 150 MB of data. Verizon Wireless claimed the 10 MB plans are the data-equivalent to thousands of e-mail messages or hundreds of Web pages.

Verizon Wireless also said it plans to expand coverage of its Express Network on April 2 in several Northeast cities, several metropolitan areas in the Midwest and the South. The expansion will increase the service coverage to one-third of Verizon Wireless’ current footprint and reach more than 72 million potential customers.
