NEW DELHI, India—Mobilink, a GSM 900 MHz service provider in Pakistan, plans to invest US$60 million in network expansion and service upgrades.
“We are putting together the expansion plan, which will give us a substantial switching and radio capacity, thereby enabling us to bring enhanced and superior cellular services to our customers,” Mobilink President Al Barry was quoted as saying in Pakistani business press this week. The company has signed an agreement with United Bank Limited to obtain structured trade facilities worth US$12 million to be used for the expansion plan.
Barry said the cellular market size in Pakistan could swell to more than 2 million subscribers this year, provided “the government of Pakistan continues its efforts to ensure a level playing field to foreign investors, and the companies continue to invest in infrastructure.”
Mobilink is owned by the Pakistan Mobile Communications, Motorola, Orascom Telecom and other investors.
