LAKE CHARLES, La.-US Unwired Inc. reported a record $92.1 million in first quarter revenues compared with $47.9 million the Sprint PCS affiliate posted for the same quarter last year. Net losses for the carrier dropped from $32.6 million, a loss of 40 cents per share, last year to a loss of $28.4 million, a loss of 33 cents per share, this year.
US Unwired said it added 32,135 net personal communication services subscribers during the quarter, compared with 46,423 net additions during the first quarter last year, ending the quarter with 350,296 PCS customers. Including its limited cellular operations, US Unwired had 382,316 customers at the end of the first quarter.
Postpaid PCS churn increased from 2.1 percent last year to 3.4 percent this year while average revenue per user including roaming jumped from $78.73 last year to $87.44 this year.
