ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—Pakistani operator Mobilink said it reached a subscriber base of 500,000 customers, and predicts it will have 1 million subscribers by year-end.
The operator, owned 90 percent by Orascom Telecom, said it expects the country’s cellular market to increase to 15 million users during the next five years. Pakistan currently has a mobile penetration rate of 0.2 percent, Mobilink said.
“We predict Pakistan having 2 million subscribers in a year’s time,” said Mobilink President Al Barry.
There are four mobile operators in Pakistan.
