STOCKHOLM, Sweden—Swefour AB was awarded the fourth GSM license in Sweden by the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency.
Swefour plans to set up a network and offer capacity to companies and operators that lack their own mobile networks. The company said will not become a new operator servicing its own mobile subscribers. Other companies will buy GSM capacity and in turn provide mobile subscriptions to end users, the company said.
“Our strategy is to build the network based on customer demand and not on speculation,” said Ulf Jonstromer, chief executive officer of BrainHeart Capital. “We therefore made relatively modest commitments in the application with regard to network expansion.”
The company is backed by BrainHeart Capital, a venture capital company that focuses on companies in the wireless industry.
