BUENOS AIRES, Argentina-TIM Digitel is the new name for Digitel, the third cellular operator in Venezuela, which in its first year of operations has attracted 300,000 customers. A one-year transition period will take place, during which both brands will be used, but then only TIM will remain.
The announcement was made by William Nazaret, president of the Venezuelan company. He also pointed out the goal of Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) is to become the first pan-American operator, unifying the 12 regional operations into one, with the brand TIM.
TIM Digitel in Venezuela is owned by Telecom Italia (56.6 percent), Venconsul (16 percent), JP Morgan (10 percent), Banco Santander Central Hispano (5.5 percent), as well as other minor shareholders.
