NTT DoCoMo to refund picture mail users

TOKYO-NTT DoCoMo, the largest mobile operator in Japan, is going to return 40 million yen (US$342,000) in communications fees to its photo mail service users because the users were not able to send or receive image data due to technical problems.

NTT DoCoMo on 1 June launched the photo mail service, which lets users send and receive picture data taken by a tiny camera built into the handset. However, according to NTT DoCoMo, due to a trouble on the system, about 2 million sheets of still pictures were not able to transmit between 1 June and 17 July.

A total of 215 complaints were sent to NTT DoCoMo about the failure of the services. According to NTT DoCoMo, the period between the beginning of the data transmission and the end of the transmission was too short for the system to process all necessary procedures. NTT DoCoMo has already fixed the defect, and normal service has been provided since 18 July, the firm said.
