NEW DELHI, India-Sri Lanka’s Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) has approved an increase in tariffs for mobile phones, following requests made by the three mobile-phone companies-Dialogue, Celltel and Mobitel.
According to media reports from Colombo, the new rates will be in operation beginning next month. Earlier, some operators tried to increase rates arbitrarily, resulting in the TRC having to step in to crack the whip. Although the new rates are less than what the mobile-phone operators wanted, the increase could help the operators shore up their margins.
