CAMBRIDGE, England-Cambridge Positioning Systems Ltd. said its latest trial results show enhanced observed time difference systems are making progress, with 81 percent of calls now being located to within 150 meters.
The Federal Communications Commission requires that by next year, 95 percent of calls must be located to within 150 meters. The results were drawn from network trials and announced at a meeting of technical officials this week in Seattle.
E-OTD has suffered setbacks in recent weeks as Cingular Wireless L.L.C. announced it was suspending infrastructure shipments, and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. said it is evaluating alternative technologies.
