Proxim announces management changes

NEW YORK-David King, president and chief operating officer of Proxim Corp., Sunnyvale, Calif., has moved into the newly created post of vice chairman of the board of directors, as part of a major reorganization. In that capacity, King will be responsible for Local Area Network strategy and business development, but he will continue to report to Jonathan Zakin, chairman and chief executive officer.

Zakin will assume temporarily the additional role of president and chief operating officer, pending conclusion of a search for a permanent replacement to that position. A search is under way by a committee whose leader is Jeffrey Saper, a Proxim board member and a partner at the law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

Amir Zoufonoun, executive vice president and general manager of the Wide Area Network division, has become executive vice president of WAN strategy and business development.

“Both David and Amir are recognized industry leaders, and this change in responsibilities frees up their time to focus on our major customers while building additional strategic relationships,” Zakin said.

Proxim also said it had consolidated its operating divisions to two from four, “to foster cross-divisional product development while simplifying, streamlining and making the organization more efficient.”
