NEW YORK-Shipments of wireless local area network chipsets likely will reach between 23 million and 25 million units this year, up from 7.9 million last year, due to strong growth in the small office-home office and retail markets and widespread demand for 802.11x solutions, said Allied Business Intelligence, Oyster Bay, N.Y.
“This is considerably above initial expectations for 14 (million) to 15 million chipsets, and it points to an acceleration in catalysts driving Wi-Fi adoption,” the research firm said in its new report on the industry dynamics, market segmentation and vendor analysis for Wi-Fi integrated circuits.
