STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson and Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. signed a global agreement for Hutchison to use Ericsson’s Video Gateway System for its video offerings on its third-generation networks worldwide. The system supports video telephony between personal computers and 3G devices.
The two companies are testing the service in Italy, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. Mobile video has been touted as one of the distinguishing services of 3G networks compared with current offerings, although data speeds are cited as one challenge to such services.
