Alcatel announces two GSM contracts

PARIS-French supplier Alcatel Corp. announced two infrastructure wins on Thursday.

Alcatel said it will supply Ikatel, the second GSM operator in Mali owned by Sonatel/France Telecom, with a nationwide GSM network. The first phase of the installation began at end-2002. Ikatel was awarded a GSM mobile license in February 2002.

In addition, Alcatel will supply a fixed wireless network based on GSM technology to Edatel in Colombia. The GSM 900 MHz network will offer fixed voice services to more than 7,000 initial subscribers, Alcatel said. With this contract, regional service provider Edatel will expand its coverage to the province of Cordoba, including the capital city of Monteria.
