AT&T Wireless launches MMS service

REDMOND, Wash.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. launched its Multimedia Messaging Service allowing customers to combine pictures, text, animations and sounds into a single messaging service.

The carrier said MMS messages can be sent to and from MMS-capable handsets, which include the currently available Sony Ericsson T68i, and from compatible phones to any e-mail address. Sending a message costs 40 cents each, while incoming MMS messages from other AT&T Wireless customers are free.

AT&T Wireless noted the first application for the MMS service will be a electronic greeting card service enabling subscribers to send still or animated greeting cards from American Greetings.com or Sony Pictures. The cards cost $2 each and are available from the Message Center menu on the carrier’s mMode service.
