MANKATO, Minn.-Rural telecommunications provider HickoryTech Corp. reported $3.7 million in wireless revenues for the fourth quarter of last year, which was a decrease from the $4 million the company reported for the fourth quarter of 2001. For the year, wireless revenues dropped from $17.7 million in 2001 to $15.5 million last year, mostly due to a $1.8 million decline in roaming revenue.
HickoryTech said it added 230 wireless customers during the fourth quarter of 2002 due to new wireless plans directed at the local, mobile customer niche. Total wireless customers increased slightly from 26,230 at the end of 2001 to 26,484 last year despite an increase in customer churn from 1.85 percent in 2001 to 2.13 percent last year.
