HANNOVER, Germany-IBM Corp. demonstrated a new Bluetooth-enabled heart rate monitor capable of sensing distress and making an emergency cell-phone call at this week’s CeBIT show in Germany.
The device is similar to popular heart rate monitors worn by joggers to measure heart rates during exercise but is capable of measuring and reporting distress via short message service on a nearby cell phone.
IBM also suggests the device could be used for people with failing health or to monitor patients in assisted-living facilities.
