SanDisk introduces flash memory cards

HANNOVER, Germany-SanDisk Corp. introduced at CeBIT two new flash memory cards geared for the new generation of multimedia mobile phones.

The 128 Megabyte MultiMediaCard for audio players and multi-function cell phones will provide more storage capacity so consumers can fully use features like digital cameras, MP3 players and game systems. The company will begin shipping this product to customers later this month.

The thumbnail-sized SanDisk miniSD card targeted at the new generation of mobile phones that offer storage-intensive features.

“Compared to standard SD cards, the miniSD card saves more than 40 percent of the printed circuit board area and more than 60 percent of the volume required to support the card in a portable device,” SanDisk said.

Shipments of the miniSD will begin later this year.
