Finland’s operators form new MNP company

HELSINKI, Finland-The four mobile operators in Finland have jointly formed a new company to manage the mobile number portability (MNP) solution in the country. Swedish consultancy Northstream worked with the operators on the solution.

The new company will begin operations this quarter to have MNP functional 25 July. The new company will charge the mobile operators according to a yet-to-be-defined price list, but the funding will be divvied up among the operators by use.

Each operator, Finnet, Radiolinja, Telia Mobile and TeliaSonera Finland, will have equal stakes in the new company.

Accenture will implement and host the MNP master solution for five years, and the solution is based on the MNP system in use in the United Kingdom. Northstream will continue management and implementation for the project.
