NEW YORK-Millicom International Cellular said it launched GSM services in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic earlier this week under the Tango brand name. Tango is the fourth entrant in Laos’ GSM market, MIC said.
MIC is operating a prepaid service under a 20-year license for GSM 900 and 1800 MHz frequencies. Value-added services include short message service and international roaming, MIC said.
“The Tango service is targeted toward the under-30 age group, which comprises 68 percent of the population of Laos, and Millicom is confident of building a significant market share,” said Marc Beuls, president and chief executive officer of MIC.
