M-commerce news keeps cashing in

NEW YORK-A series of diverse mobile commerce announcements show the industry is still interested in the technology, with Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo Inc., start-up Network365 and a New York candy bar store testing the waters.

In conjunction with its new stores in New York, Florida and Texas, Dylan’s Candy Bar will also begin what it calls its “mmm-commerce” wireless campaign. The service will allow visitors to its Internet site to send out candy coupons that are redeemable using mobile phones.

Mobile commerce company Network365, which is providing services through its partnership with NTT DoCoMo Inc., announced it scored $12 million in new funding.

Finally, NTT DoCoMo said it will introduce the FirstPass SSL client authentication service for its m-commerce FOMA service. The technology is aimed at reducing fraud and offers more secure transactions for mobile shoppers. The service is free, and applications can be made online with mobile handsets.
