Swiss court rules in Motorola’s favor

CHICAGO-Motorola Inc. won another legal victory over Turkey’s wireless carrier Telsim in a Swiss court ruling to freeze the $800 million worth of assets controlled by the Uzan family, which owns the carrier.

Motorola had sued the carrier under the U.S. anti-racketeering and fraud laws and asked for repayment of more than $2 billion in vendor financing. The ruling was against the Uzans’ appeal.

“The Swiss Federal Supreme Court’s rejection of the Uzans’ appeals is another significant affirmation of Motorola’s worldwide actions seeking to recover billions of dollars that were stolen from Motorola,” said Chris Galvin, Motorola chairman and chief executive.

The ruling comes less than a week after a U.S. federal judge ordered the Uzan family to pay Motorola $4.26 billion, plus post-judgement interest.
