NEW DELHI-India’s Telecom Dispute Settlement Appellate Tribunal has dismissed a petition from the Cellular Operators Association of India to stop the operation of CDMA technology in the country. The COAI is now considering whether to appeal to the Supreme Court.
GSM-based companies were challenging the entry of CDMA mobile operators, fearing that the competition would hurt their bottom lines. GSM companies also said the CDMA players’ licenses only allowed fixed-line services, so the companies were in the mobile telephone market illegally.
