Telenor Mobile Interactive to offer interactive TV services in U.S.

DUBLIN, Ireland-Telenor Mobile Interactive said it will use technology from Irish mobile applications company Xiam to offer wireless services that allow U.S. TV viewers to interact with broadcasters using their mobile phones.

Telenor Mobile Interactive is the U.S. arm of Norwegian mobile communications company Telenor Mobile. The firm has for years been offering interactive TV services throughout Europe. Through the use of Xiam’s Media Platform, Telenor Mobile Interactive said it will be able to work with broadcasters and brands to offer interactive wireless services in the United States.

Indeed, Telenor Mobile Interactive said it has already won contracts with a number of major broadcast networks.

“We are delighted to make this significant announcement, our biggest deal to date in 2003,” said Colm Healy, Xiam’s chief executive officer. “Telenor Mobile is recognized globally as one of the world’s mobile data pioneers, and we view its selection of our technology as a significant endorsement.”
