Jordan to offer third mobile license

LONDON-Jordan’s telecom regulator announced plans to start the selection process for a third mobile license later this month.

Competition for the license will be open to all potential investors that meet the criteria of “financial ability, industry experience and technological suitability,” according to The Telecoms Regulatory Commission (TRC). The regulator plans to conduct the licensing process in a “fully transparent and non-discriminatory manner, in accordance with the highest international standards of openness and unbiased decision-making.”

The third operator will most likely enter the market alongside existing players Fastlink and Mobilecom in early 2004.

TRC did not determine the technology that could be used for the license, opening the door for a possible CDMA bid.
