HELSINKI, Finland-Telia in Sweden said it is now offering video clips of news by the Swedish agency TT to its TeliaGo customers. Users can download the video clips to their phones and view them using reduced GPRS rates, which Telia cut by almost 70 percent in conjunction with the new service.
Telia has been offering text-based news for some time.
The operator’s GPRS rate will be reduced from about 2 cents per kilobyte to less than 1 cent per kilobyte.
“Now Telia Go customers can read more than text news on their phones; they can also see real news clips, which gives them a completely different experience,” said Indra Asander, head of the consumer segment at TeliaSonera Sweden. The operator said reducing the GPRS rates will help create new usage patterns for mobile phones.
