Nokia Corp. again warned against using batteries from other providers and blamed non-Nokia batteries for recent reports of exploding Nokia phones.
Nokia said its investigation into an exploding phone incident in the Netherlands of a Nokia 7210 revealed the phone was using a battery that was not a Nokia battery. The company said such batteries sometimes suffer from careless design, an uncontrolled production process or a combination of both.
“With the non-original batteries we have been able to inspect, it appears that they did not fulfill the safety and quality requirements comparable to those that Nokia applies to its original batteries,” said Juha Murtopuro, director of Nokia’s mobile enhancements business unit. “Using inferior quality standards may lead to these types of incidents occurring. The best way to prevent such incidents is to use only original Nokia enhancements and to buy them from an authorized or other reputable dealer.”
Nokia last year issued a similar warning after reports of exploding phones.
