NEWARK, N.J.-IDT Corp. this week launched IDT Global Access to allow U.S.-based cell-phone users to make international calls with rates it said are up to 80 percent less than those charged by wireless operators.
According to IDT, the international rates are also lower than rates from most traditional landline long distance companies. The IDT Global Access rate to call the United Kingdom or Germany is 6 cents per minute and to call Japan costs 7 cents per minute, for example.
The service can be accessed from any cell phone regardless of wireless plan or handset and can also be used from a landline phone. After activating an account through IDT, customers dial a toll-free access number and then enter their destination numbers.
