SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.-While government and carriers continue to hammer out the technical and political details of wireless local number portability, wireless retailer Wireless Retail Inc., which sells services from each of the top six U.S. carriers to consumers, is taking steps of its own to prepare.
The company, likely to serve as a point of contact for curious consumers, has been talking with carriers to get a handle on exactly how the service will work. “They say they’re ready,” said Steve Giese, Wireless Retail’s executive director of field sales training. Regardless, Wireless Retail will be prepared, Giese said. The company has begun training its customers on the process so they can pass educated information on to their customers.
“WLNP represents a great service for consumers, if they are properly informed, and Wireless Retail offers an opportunity to provide excellent customer service,” Giese said. That said, “It couldn’t come at a worse possible time,” Giese added, noting the already-strenuous holiday shopping season within which the Nov. 24 WLNP deadline falls.
